Canon Speedlite 220 EX

The 220EX is especially designed to work with the E-TTL Autoflash system of Canon digital SLR's. The E-TTL pre-stored evaluative system used in these flashguns fires a preflash to determine the flash output required. The flashes synchronise to all shutter speeds in High-speed Sync mode. Covers a focal length range of 28-135mm with a minimum recycle time of 4.5 seconds.

    External Flash = Better Pictures

Pros: Nice even light; doesn't overpower close objects; no red-eye; eliminates shadows
Cons: Added weight and bulk; no way to use diffusers or gels
The Bottom Line: I'm surprised how much more professional my pictures look when using the 220EX flash. If you're serious about photography and have a Canon G7/G9, get the 220EX.
